History

Beller Design Build has been designing and building quality projects along the Central Coast since 1977 using cutting-edge architecture and construction approaches. After graduating with a degree in Architecture from Cal Poly, Richard Beller started working as a general contractor designing and building from the ground up, working as a builder and continuing to design. Along the way, he obtained his architect’s license and began teaching Architecture part-time at Cal Poly. His son Jonathan started working with him after completing his AA degree at Cuesta College, obtaining his contractor’s license in 2007. After fourteen years of field experience, Jonathan took over the construction management side of the business in 2015.

Philosophy

Our approach to design emphasizes the integration of a distinctive design aesthetic with appropriate technology, starting with a complete understanding of place, occupant desires, and needs. We strive to create designs that are as special as the people who live, work, and gather in them. We specialize in the integration of the entire design/build process, from initial concept development through final occupancy, creating unique, innovative projects that demonstrate the highest quality design, craftsmanship, and performance.

Richard Beller earned a bachelor degree in architecture at California Polytechnic State University, and a Master’s degree in architecture at Cal Poly with a concentration in real estate development. He taught part-time in the Architecture department at Cal Poly for twenty years, including one year in Washington D.C. at the Washington-Alexandria Architectural Collaborative.

He is affiliated with the American Institute of Architects, was a founding member of SLO Green Build—an organization dedicated to encouraging sustainable design and construction practices—and is a LEED-accredited professional in Building Design and Construction.

Jonathan Beller was born and raised on the Central Coast of California. After completing a degree at Cuesta Community College, he began working with his father building commercial and residential projects. While working as a carpenter, he passed the State of California Contractors State License Board exam and received his contractor's license at the age of twenty-five.

Jonathan is an expert metal and alloy fabricator whose skills are highly sought-after on the Central Coast. He maintains his own fully-equipped shop where he works on a variety of projects.

With a passion for quality and commitment to budget, Jonathan enjoys the challenges presented by each project. He prides himself on his commitment to involvement in all stages of the management and construction of your project.
