2005 Solar Decathlon

Richard Beller, as a faculty member at Cal Poly, was the construction manager for this third-place-award-winning project at the US Department of Energy's 2005 Solar Decathlon. This zero-net energy demonstration home was constructed with the help of students and professionals in less than six months, transported to Washington, DC, and assembled for a ten-day competition featuring the work of twenty universities. This home is designed to run completely "off-the-grid" using batteries to store energy produced by photovoltaic solar panels.
