Studio Drive Residence – Cayucos
The Project
This residence is located on an oceanfront lot in Cayucos. Strict height limits, a narrow lot, and coastal commission blufftop setback regulations made this project a challenge to design and obtain approvals. The home is sited to take advantage of dramatic coastal views, ample natural light, and cool ocean breezes.
The design creates a balance between efficiently laid-out spaces and rooms that serve multiple purposes, including a library/guest room, office/butler’s pantry/craft room, and an exercise/media/guest room. An example of this approach is the library, which becomes a guest room with a few quick modifications: a motorized shade closes to create a temporary ceiling, pocket doors slide shut, and a Murphy bed lowers from a wall cabinet. Clerestory windows above the kitchen cabinetry are operated by remote control to take advantage of prevailing breezes, providing ventilation while ensuring privacy.
